Amman Citadel
About
Perched atop Jabal al-Qala'a in the heart of Amman, this ancient hilltop complex spans the Bronze Age through the Islamic era. Home to the Temple of Hercules and the Umayyad Palace.
The Amman Citadel sits atop one of Amman's many hills, offering sweeping views over the modern capital. Inhabited since the Bronze Age, the site holds layers of history — Ammonite, Roman, Byzantine, and early Islamic — all within a compact area. The Jordan Archaeological Museum on site houses priceless artifacts including the Ain Ghazal statues, among the world's oldest human statues.
